View Full Version : Has anyone added a clock to their GZ250?

After having my bike for a little over 2 months now, I've decided that I'm pretty content with it. However, I really would like to add some sort of clock to it since I will be starting my school commute next week and would REALLY like to be able to tell what time it is on my way. Anyone have any ingenious ways of adding a clock, preferably one that is waterproof?

There are a herd of them on Kuryakyn's site. Here is the index page of clocks.

Also about a dozen cheaper on e-bay (as low as $10). Look here:

Happy Motoring!!

Hmmm... those are nice looking, but to be honest, I was looking for a cheaper homebrewed solution. :)

OK, so go to WalMart, get a battery operated one that sticks on with Velcro (for about $5) and put a Ziplock over it !!

Actually, I was considering buying a cheap waterproof digital watch from Walmart and fashioning some sort of PVC mount, but I figured I'd ask here first to see if anyone had any better solutions. :)

I've been really wanting one on my GZ for a long time now too. I've seen the expensive ones that clip on your handlebars and are designed for bikes, but I can't make myself pay the money. I was going to do basically what Easy said and get a cheap sports watch from Walmart with a velcro band and strap it to the bars. They're usually waterproof and if it gets stolen (who'd steal that?) and/or destroyed somehow, I may only be out $4-5.

I haven't done it yet though.

Edit: DOH! We said the same thing.

Back when I had my Ninja, I just used some waterproof double sided tape and stuck the face of a $5 digital watch in a mathching color to a visible area. It worked for about a year until it finally melted in the sun one afternoon.
You could do that.

I have one on mine. I move it from bike to bike as I trade. It is one of those 1 lb. chrome "made for a big cruiser" thingies that mounts over bolt heads. But you can't have it.

A great pennytech solution. Just create a flat spot somewhere to mount the watch face.

Um, just spitballing here, but how about this idea? Wear a watch. Not trying to be a jackass here but, I think it is a better idea for several reasons.

1) I have plenty of time to check my watch at a stop light if I need to know what time it is.
2) If I'm out just driving for fun I don't care what time it is unless its time to eat, pee or pull over for a smoke and rest the butt.
3) If your in constantly moving traffic on your commute, where you can't check your watch, wouldn't a clock reminding you that your running late be a bad thing? For me when driving my cage I know If I start running late I start trying to make up time. Usually by speeding , or doing other stupid things. I'd rather ride safe and show up late than not show up at all.

Just my opinion though.

A clock on the bike is very nice to have. Wearing a watch can be very impractible when wearing gloves and a jacket. A visible time piece on the bike is best and can be seen the easiest. As for being late for work/school/appt, think of it this way. Stop looking at the time and enjoy the ride. Being late is better than not getting there due to trying to catch up and having a mishap that might spoil your entire future.

There is plenty of times I've been wanting to ride for only an hour or so and get back home so I could get ready for work or something. Like WW said, a watch is nice to have on your arm if you're squiding around without a jacket and gloves, but for someone who wears ATGATT, including gauntleted gloves, it's very impractical. A glance down would be preferable to know it's about time to start shagging back to the homestead.

Also, I agree with Newbiker. If you're running late or that is even possible, DON'T ride the bike. Take your car. You're much more likely to be distracted and careless by being impatient and worried about the time if you're late. Careless and distracted can and very probably will be deadly on a motorcycle commute.

A few dollars of gas is worth it compared to a few thousand or more in the hospital.

I used an old watch I had. Took the band off and stuck it on with 2 sided tape works great and did not cost anything!!!! :2tup:

Just remembered. Got a Gold Seiko when I retired. Wonder if Lynda would like that on her GZ ?? I never wear it anyway.

You totally rock for that link. I ran across this months back and completely lost it. AMOF, that particular clock is exactly what I was thinking about when I saw this thread, but couldn't for the life of me find it again.

Also, I've been looking for a "beverage" holder for my bike.

I've used a cheap sports watch with an easy to read digital face strapped between the handle bar mounts. It works pretty well but sometimes it rotates around from the vibration of the bike and requires taking a hand off the bars to read when this happens. Could be hazardous in heavy traffic but it is a good cheap solution.

Lynda's new M-50 has a clock and a gas gauge.

Thanks for the links and ideas here. I too have trouble finding my watch underneath the jacket and gloves and sometimes I'd like to know what time it is during the ride. So thanks to the sites you guys posted, I found a nice clock that will fit on the stem nut on my Kawasaki. Ordered it last night and hopefully it will arrive this week sometime.

good subject for a post Primal.
