View Full Version : question about the MC engine guard

Does that guard mount with the existing bolts in the front and lower part of the frame or is there another method of attachment? Are those bolts, especially the lower one, long enough or does it come with new bolts? Any tricks in attaching it, like top end first or it doesn't matter? How much torque on the bolts or just tighten it up as good as you can get it?
Thanks.

The only extra that I needed was a new bolt to fit the horn back in its new position on the guard. It took all of 5 minutes to "throw it on" using the existing bolts. I've got a ratchet set, but don't possess a torque wrench, but "nice & tight", while not being very scientific, seems fine.

I just installed the MC guard yesterday.
Excellent instructions, and all needed parts.
Top mounts where the horn is with the existing bolt.
Bottom mounts on the engine mount with a provided longer bolt, existing nut.
Horn mounts on the guard with a provided bolt.

I had trouble getting the engine mount bolt in because the picture is wrong.
Follow the written directions instead and put the bolt in from the left side.
You'll need 12mm and 13mm sockets and wrenches.
Very solid piece of kit, I feel better riding with it on there.

There you go, more information that anyone could want.

Yeah - I got mine maybe a week after I posted that question and I think it took less time and effort to put it on than it did to open the box and get it out and check for all the parts.
Real easy, fits well. looks good too.

I'm having trouble sending multiple pics, like 3 at a time, under 5mb as the site says, but they aren't uploading even if I make them a smaller size.
I have 7 nice pics of the MC guard on the bike from all different angles, but I may have to send them one at a time in separate messages if I can't get this to work.
I'll try to find out in the troubleshooting section first before I send 7 separate messages on here.

Not positive about this but I think you are going to have to "find" via browse and upload them one at a time....but you should be able to do several for one post....just by repeating the process.

Here's a few pics of the MC guard on my bike - from all different angles. It's the shiniest piece of chrome on my bike.

Looks awesome! I like how it gives the bike even more of that "fat cruiser" look, and more shiny bits are never a bad thing!

I think the shipping cost was $17 or so,

Dennis Kirk usually has good prices, but they have it listed right now (just checked) for $189 + shipping.

Do a google search and look for the lowest price.

Looking good. Lots of protection if you drop it in the driveway. Also makes the bike a little more grown-up in appearance. Lynda has similar bars on her M-50. Same brand but bigger. Accidently did a drop test during an oil change and they worked as expected. The bike will only fall so far and then tend to roll over on it's side. Rolled it back and lifted the rest of the way. Good news for an old guy.

You didn't let her try and pick it up like in the videos?
Oh, I know, you didn't tell her you dropped it. :haha2: :crackup :poke2:

Oh I told her. But just to let Lynda know a drop is not the end of the world. Now my Vstrom is a different story. If/when it gets dropped I look for volunteers to help get it up again. First drop taught me a lesson, not as strong and young as I used to be.
