Has anyone worked on the transmission in their GZ. If so how difficult is it to get to and does it really require all the "special" tools the service manual shows?

The service manual makes it look very intimidating, but I really don't want to spend the $900 the dealership wants to charge.

The job of transmission repair is as hard as the tools that you own. If you have all the tools and skills, the job is pretty easy. If not, the job is really hard and you may end up breaking parts. Here is a list of tools that I would consider minimum for the job.

1. Basic hand tools

2. Flywheel puller

3. Case separating tool

4. Air impact and air compressor

5. Ring compressor and piston holder

6. CLEAN work bench

7. Service Manual

Motoprof, is it possible to separate the case without the special tool? And what is "air impact" and why is it needed? :??:
