View Full Version : Parts compatibility/aftermarket items/accessories?

I don't think this has been detailed anywhere else before, but I think it would be nice to have one location for all the aftermarket parts that people have found for the bike, and/or parts that are made for other bikes that are compatible without modification to the GZ (excluding uinversal-fit type of stuff). For example, I know that MC Enterprises makes a couple of items specifically for the GZ. Here's a rack, saddlebag brackets, and engine guard: http://www.mcenterprisesusa.com/product ... chForm.cfm (http://www.mcenterprisesusa.com/products/search/dsp_searchForm.cfm)

I'm mostly thinking about accessories like these, but does anybody have anything else? I'm currently looking around for floorboards (passenger and driver), but I want something that slips right in the OEM mounting brackets, so that's one reason I thought this would be a good idea. I also figured this would help to minimize the number of posts on this board about accessories for the GZ.

There ain't much out there brother. A few universal, Savage 650, and Marauder 800 things work. Check Kuryakyn. Usually Marauder 800 pegs will fit. (NO PROMISES) Make sure you can return anything you order!! http://www.kuryakyn.com/index.asp

I have yet to find a seat replacement, and thats the weakest area on the GZ. Makes your ass ache after about 50 miles.

Here is where I got my LED taillight. It's from a Marauder 800

There are clear tail lenses and LED tail light options that are direct replacement.

Also of note, most modern Suzuki cruisers use the same turn signal lenses

K&N # SU-5589 is a direct drop in replacement for the standard filter. It's important to note that you will almost certianly need to adjust your jetting.

EDIT:
Here is a second option, submitted by Music_Man

Hiflo - Part # HFA 3503

Any afermarket filter that fits either the GS500 or the Marauder 800 will work on this bike.

I just recently came across this little gem. It only costs about $26 and Uni is a good quality brand.

We have 7/8" handlears. As such, all 7/8 bar accessories will work. This includes barend weights (barends) and replacement bars and any other accessories you can imagine.

There are a few companies that make replacement sprockets for the bike. JT Sprockets used to have some but they have discontinued them. Sprocket Specialists also sell front and rear sprocket. Also, there is a factory Suzuki part number for an OEM front sprocket but that number eludes me right now.

Front sprockets are available in sizes from 13 teeth - 16 teeth. The factory size is 15 teeth.

http://www.postimage.org/aV2fSw70.jpg (http://www.postimage.org/image.php?v=aV2fSw70)

This information comes via an older post by Jaime:
Hey, guys! I don't know if you already have it, but I've found the Suzuki OEM part number for the 16T sprocket!
It was used in the GN/DR 400 1980-1982. You may buy it at any Suzuki dealer.

Here we go... # 27511-37200 :rawk:

Our bike uses a 520/110 chain. The size being a 520 and being 110 links long.
Any 520/110 chain will work. I prefer O-rings.

There are no aftermarket exhaust options available.

So, if you want a different exhaust note or look you only have a couple of options.

1. You can drill holes in the rear plate on your muffler.
2. You can install an aftermarket universal muffler.
3. You can have something custom made.

1.http://www.postimage.org/gx17zq1r.jpg (http://www.postimage.org/image.php?v=gx17zq1r)

2.http://www.postimage.org/gx17yX5J.jpg (http://www.postimage.org/image.php?v=gx17yX5J)
http://www.postimage.org/PqrePZr.jpg (http://www.postimage.org/image.php?v=PqrePZr)
http://www.postimage.org/gx17zdyJ.jpg (http://www.postimage.org/image.php?v=gx17zdyJ)

3.http://www.postimage.org/gx17zJZA.jpg (http://www.postimage.org/image.php?v=gx17zJZA)
http://www.postimage.org/gx17zYXr.jpg (http://www.postimage.org/image.php?v=gx17zYXr)

With any significant exhaust change you will be leaning out your fuel/air mixture. So it will be likely that you will need to rejet your carb accordingly, if you want your bike to run properly.

There aren't many tire options for our bike that come in a matching set. There are, however, many options if you don't mind mixing up tire brands and/or going to a slightly smaller tire up front.

The factory tires sizes are: 110/90-16 (F) & 130/90-15 (R)

The rim width for the front wheel is 2.5" and the rear wheel width is 3.0"
That being the case, a size 100/90-16 front tire will work on this bike. It does have an overall diameter decrease of 9mm over the 110/90-16 but that isn't really very drastic. I have no personal experience. But, I do plan on using this slightly smaller profile front tire when I change over to a new set of tires.

Factory replacement tires: 110/90-16 & 130/90-15
Dunlop D404
Cheng Shin C906 & C907

Rear Factory Replacements:
Kenda Challenger
Pirelli MT66
Maxxis M6103
Cheng Shin Marquis
Metzeler Me 77

Factory Replacement Front:
Avon Roadrider
GBC Green Shark
Metzler Lasertec

100/90-16 Front:
Bridgestone BT45
Maxxis M6002
Cheng Shin C6000
Kenda Cruiser
IRC Durotour

Matching tires with low profile front: 100/91-16 & 130/90-15
Kenda Cruiser
http://www.postimage.org/gx17RetJ.jpg (http://www.postimage.org/image.php?v=gx17RetJ)
These are the tires that I'm looking at for future purchase. They should be a higher quality than the Cheng Shin's and offer at least a third option for those who want to try something apart from factory tires.

This list is not complete but it is what I have compiled while searching over the last couple of days.
If someone want to try the 100/90-16 front before me, let me know.

FYI;

Tire sizes are stated as follows:
The first number is width in millimeters. The number after the slash is sidewall height stated as a percentage of the tread width.
The last is the rim size (diameter) in inches.

Thus a 110/90 is 110 mm wide and has a 99 mm tall sidewall. Also a 100/90 is 100 mm wide and has a 90 mm tall sidewall. (7mm is close to 1/4")
So it is actually narrower as well as shorter in sidewall height and may affect your speedo reading.

As I said in a previous post, I put a Pirelli Route on the rear ($107.65) and a Pirelli Sport Demon ($90.57) on the front. (the Route model was not available in the correct front size)

I'm very happy with them.

:2tup:

PS to Jonathan: Are you going to make up a thread listing all known compatible parts? I think that is a great idea !!

Well, I had been doing that here since that is what Orpheus asked for. I had been using this post as a base. I may compile everything into one, easy to find area.

Will you post some more info on those Pirelli's? I didn't list them probably because I just hadn't come across them yet.

Did you go with the smaller front or what?
Also, since you actually have them, how about a photo?

Thanks man,
Jonathan

Sarris: those Pirellis look nice. Might have to look in to those when it's time for a change.
Jonathan: good idea about making a separate thread with everything edited down, that way we can keep this one open for discussion and then have all the links or whatever in one place.

Here's something I found that is a universal-type fit, but might interest people as an aftermarket accessory: http://www.jpcycles.com/productgroup.as ... 8B42954BF5 (http://www.jpcycles.com/productgroup.aspx?GID=290716E2-E27B-47DD-AE75-E68B42954BF5)
I've been looking for floorboards (driver and passenger) for a while and these seem to be able to fit on the GZ. I'm kind of confused because it says that they fit all late models with a clevis-style footpeg, and it's found on the Metric Cruiser page, but then specifically excludes a bunch of Harley bikes. Y'all think this is just the generic write-up for the metric and Harley advertisements and that's why it's like that or is something else going on? I'll probably order these in the next week or two (depending on the general consensus here about the "universal" application of them) and give a little write-up in a separate thread.

Edit: okay, I just looked up the floorboards on the Harley page (here: http://www.jpcycles.com/productgroup.as ... F47475BDA0 (http://www.jpcycles.com/productgroup.aspx?GID=854A558F-FDE9-4DCA-930C-14F47475BDA0) )and the write-up is different. Anybody have an idea what's going on here?

I bought a set of these (for the 250 Marauder) from the UK. They did fit great, but they were not for me and I sold them. Also, they were not cheap, but they were superbly made & were structurally excellent. These are the only ones I could find to fit the GZ.

Does anyone Know a good place to look at a wide variety of 7/8" handlebars. I found some I really liked on J.C. Whitney last

night, only to be shot down when i found out they were 1" bars.

I read through that thread one time, but I think those ones that I mentioned earlier might fit without modification and are a hell of a lot cheaper than most (only like $40). I'll probably try them and see what I think; I'm not really expecting much for the price, but if they fit and I just don't like them I could still use them as passenger boards. I'll keep y'all updated.

Okay, here's a good one for everyone: does anybody know anything about lightbars? I've seen a few around that would probably work on the GZ, but they're always extremely pricey. I'm thinking about finding some clamps that fit on the fork tubes and adding a couple of smaller spotlights if I can't find a reasonable lightbar. Anybody have any idea what size the forks are? Either that or somebody who makes fairly cheap lightbars that fit on the GZ? I know there are two holes on the bottom of the triple tree (under the headlight) that hold on that chrome piece, and I think that there might be some options for finding lightbars with the same distance between the screws (or is the GZ the only Suzuki product that uses that specific triple tree?). Any info. will be appreciated.

I forgot about these guys: http://www.customspaan.com/ they have a bunch of stuff that fits the European GZ/Marauder, but I haven't tried them yet and they don't have prices listed in their catalog (catalog here: http://www.multispain.com/CATALOGOpdf/s ... go2008.pdf (http://www.multispain.com/CATALOGOpdf/spaan_catalogo2008.pdf)). They have an aftermarket lightbar that is listed for the GZ as well as an engine guard, saddlebag supports, a rear rack, and a different sissy bar than the Suzuki one (it's shorter with a bigger backrest).

Just bought those floorboards from JPcycles that I mentioned a few posts back. They don't require any modification, but you'll need to figure out how to fit spacers in the mounting brackets when you put them on; I just put a bunch of washers in the excess space. I'll post pictures tomorrow and give a little better description. I like them so far, but I'm going to need to raise the shift lever just a little bit before I take it out on the streets. One of the nice things about these is that they'll lift up if they hit the ground around a corner, which makes me feel a little better about them than some of the modified versions that I've seen around (and they're only around $35).

Here's the pics of the floorboards:

http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm283/taburton/0081.jpg

http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm283/taburton/0082.jpg

As I said earlier, it was necessary to move the shifter up a little bit, and it requires some sort of spacers to make them fit well (especially the passenger ones). Overall, it requires about 20-30 minutes per footrest for install time at first, but after you get it figured out it only takes a few minutes. Overall, I'm extremely happy with them.
