Just got back from the coffee pit. There was an older BMW GS850(?) I think that looked like it just rolled out of the showroom. A nice shiny red paint job and pristine tires too.

Yup, those were the days. The Universal Japanese Motorcycle took the riding world by storm with reliability and affordability. Although there are many more bikes to choose from these days many are a one use bike with no real ability to do many things well. Niche bikes can be fun but are generally expensive and higher maintenance units.
I'll stick with my Japanese Timex on Wheels, takes a lickin and keeps on tickin.

Started this thread Aug 24th. My coffee bud traded the BMW for another Suzuki Sept 19th. It won't last though. He had a virtually identical Suzuki before and it lasted 3 weeks. Some things just make you go "Hmm."

Went past the bike shop today, and there it was. Nearly new. Immediately fell in love with it. The bike of my dreams. 680cc, built in luggage etc etc etc. Trouble is, it'll probably be gone before I win the lottery.

Oddly for me the "sport touring" niche just doesn't do it for me. However I am extremely fortunate in the sense that I have 5 bikes that can do it all from rip the twisties (GSXR), to cruise along at the posted speed limit all loaded with luggage for a week long trip (Fatboy)

Two of my close riding buddies have sport touring bikes, (a Kawi Concours, and a 900 Triumph Sprint) . I've tried them both, and fantastic bikes for what they were intended to do, but just not my liking...

I have had the SV for one year and 12,000 miles.

There is not another bike that I want at this time.

Well, my buddy Ed couldn't let the year go by.

Nice looking bike. MG has some interesting design features but the parts and dealerships are all too rare in this neck of the woods. Really a pity as the bikes are made to be ridden and offer a decent riding position.
A friend has a 2007 Norge 1200 and it is a beautiful machine.

The dealer is 150 miles away, but it is one of our ride points.

Just talked to Manny at the coffee shop. He traded his C-50 for another bike. I think that is #20 now. A really sweet Honda 1000 V-twin sport bike. He is already planning on a different bike by the end of May.
He still says the Vstrom 650 was the best overall but he rarely buys any model twice. He did however have 2 C-50 bikes.
All I can do is laugh and shake my head. He is the ultimate shopper.
