High idle, no idea
1 Attachment(s)
Hello. So my gz has been idling high since I've owned it. Currently at 12xxx miles. I just cleaned the carburetor and it's still idling rather high. Attached is a picture of the right side of the carb. I'm thinking maybe one of the exposed holes needs to be plugged? Also the idle screw has been adjusted. All the way out doesn't affect its idle

Yes.. But are your throttle cables adjusted properly?
Does the engine warm idle change with steering from lock to lock at a stop? |
Sorry forgot to mention throttle has been looked at. It doesn't change when fully locked left or right.

Harumph. It's night out and I can't give mine a glance to compare.
A vacuum leak tends to cause rough idle and dying. So the throttle cables aren't under tension 'eh.rm. Easy starting and smooth idle? If high.. Warm engine idle's high smoothly with no choke? |
Upon initial cold start, it doesn't idle so high. As it is warmed up it idles high. No choke needed to start it, ever honestly.

I did cover up one of the holes with my thumb and it idled significantly lower, enough so that I had to raise the idle screw, however this caused it to idle rough and die with the flick of the throttle.

Ok... Wow....
Now you got me. :) Your 47 minutes after hour post says to me your dead on to a bit rich in the mixture. Your 49 minutes after hour post says to me mixture off and when vacuum leak is being covered by thumb you overcorrect off mixture. Hopefully someone else has your answer soon enough or i'll hafta think on it cuz I'm ?_? I'm wondering where your pilot screw is set. |
I am quite stumped as well. Thank you for your inputs though sir

Any signs someone else has dinked with carb?
Any screws show sign someone else has been before? You cleaned carb? Is the tin plug still covering pilot screw? |
It's possible previous owner didn't put the jets back in the appropriate positions.
Or without understanding... Seated the pilot screw all the way down. |
