20 bike in 3 years.

Was talking to a coffee bud yesterday. He is now on a BMW 1150. That makes it 20 bikes bought and traded off in 3 years. One Triumph, 18 Japanses bikes and now a German bike. I really wonder if he will ever find one that fits his head. Oddly enought he kept a Vstom 650 the longest but swapped it off after doing an Iron Butt 1000. He buys new, used or demos. The dealerships love him.
He was the guy who made Utube at 235 km(146mph)according to a police helicopter and chase car. That was on his Triumph last year. He imediately bought a slower bike, a Suzuki C-50 but the need for speed reared it's head after 3 weeks.
Back to yesterday. The reason for the BMW. He dropped his Honda ST1300 and couldn't pick it up by himself. RIGHT!!. The BMW is lighter so why not.
I wonder how long the BMW will last him.

That's 18 bikes. Quite a bunch. I guess there are much worse addictions. I was once in that category with cages in my 20's. I averaged a new car every 11 months. There was always something newer, better or different at a dealership. My bank manager and I would haggle over the cost of the options. Sometimes I got them and sometimes I didn't. Then I bought a full size van in 1974 and had it for 10 years. I guess I was never a car guy. I've only had one car since and disliked it for 3 and a half years. Trucks and vans seem to work for me.

Where the hell does the money come from to buy all these bikes anyway? Geez, i cant even get a second bike right now if my life depended on it.

Money comes from a better than average job or as in my friend's case a well paid wife/doctor. Maybe family money too. I don't even know if he has a job.
When I was part of the workforce I was hard pressed to buy anything with cash and that included a full tank of gas. Now after retiring and downsizing a lot I have some spare cash to play with. Not a lot mind you but I never worry about the rent.

Re: 20 bike in 3 years.

1978: Mongomery Ward 3.5hp briggs mini bike (the bike that started it all for me)
1980: 1977 XR80 trail bike ( tough myself how to shift (many lowsides and cuts and gashes)
1981: '77 RM125 MX bike (dumb move on my part, I barely knew how to correctly ride, but I begged my dad to let me get it )
1983 82 RM125 started racing MX, the beginning of the end of a healthy body ! LOL
1985 '84 KX125
1988 1988 KX125 20 years old and my first brand new bike ! paid cash , and what an awesome feeling
1988 1973 Suzuki T500 first street bike, wow what a POS pig heavy bike, crappy brakes, wobbly steering, but had some balls !
1989 1984 Suzuki GS550L much better handling, but whimpy power untill 10K rpm! LOL
1991 1984 Yammi RZ350, now I had speed, handling, brakes, and way too many speeding tickets.
1995 91 KX250 (gave up street riding, and back to club racing dirt)
1997 1990 Kawi ZX10 (back to street, but mentally more matured)
2003 1982 GS1100E (my first full bike restoration)
2005 2001 Kawi KX500 (always wanted a SICK big bore 2 stroke, and I def got what I asked for )! :skull:
2007 2007 Yammi YZ450F back to dirt, and some winter ice riding
2007 2006 Harley Fatboy
2008 1987 GSXR750 my 2nd full restoration
2010 1984 Kawi GPz1100 my 3rd restoration
2011 2001 GZ250

A little purchase history of me. Sold most all of these as for one reason or another because the bike just didn't do it for me. My only regret is selling the '82 GS1100E, what a fantastic all around bike to ride ! Shoulda' kept that girl!!!

Re: 20 bike in 3 years.

I count 18 bikes total. If you had them all right now you could open your own store. And yeah, you should have kept the GS1100E. Awesome bike.
