My GZ
New guy here, Ive had my GZ for about a year now but new to the forum. I also have started a bobber project as of last week. So far muffler and handlebars are the only mods but there is alot of stuff on its way in the mail so more pics to come. Hope you enjoy the video. On the fence about the muffler, it sounds good but the placement puts it right behind you so its quite loud.

Re: My GZ
Nice looking bike and I'm looking forward to your project. There's been a few around here who have made bobbers and I'm beginning to like a lot of them.

Re: My GZ
ok well the brutal battle was taken off of here, didnt bother me much i work with a bunch of cynical old men as it is, so nothing new. but anyways in the middle of all the ranting no one suggested to what the idle should be. I did adjust the idle myself, and being a car mechanic and this being my first bike i adjusted it as i would a car and believe me thats not the first time i did something wrong but thats how you usually find out the right things, im just hoping i havent caused much damage to the engine. also as far as performance my acceleration has actually smoothed out. As far as top speed goes i havent tried yet. but this bike is a runner so far my longest trip was from Springfield, Mo. to Kansas City, Mo. and back good for 400 miles round trip. If anyone knows about what rpm the idle should be at please post.
Ps- Awhile back when i went to bikes blues and bbq, i saw a yahama warrior with the nicest stock seat i had ever seen, well i guess i underestimated the seat size......by alot..so moments after i recieved my package today with such excitement, it was shortly followed by sorrow. lol. so if anyone was wondering...no a yamaha warrior seat will not fit on a gz, well not properly or without heavy modding. might use it to re-skin my seat though. I welcome all advice heres the new idle [youtube:uuml4jtq]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p-ljkz-rfVE[/youtube:uuml4jtq] heres the muffler side per request http://s1.postimage.org/yxARi.jpg |

2wheelerwill - On behalf of the site ownership and less-antagonistic members (of which I am not necessarily a part of), I apologize for the thread-jacking.
Carry on. |
Re: My GZ
1200 to 1400 rpm. I know that sounds a bit high, but the GeeZer needs that to keep up oil pressure and not overheat at idle.
Welcome to our nightmare. :2tup: |
Re: My GZ
Thanks for the info sarris, and thanks for the apology patrick lol. Tulsa huh do you go to BBB in fayetteville?

Sarris provided the official spec.; my guess is that you presently have it set in the 6-800 range so it could be about half what it's supposed to be. I used to set mine by ear and run it up until the thump-thump smoothed out to the point where the individual strokes weren't evident. I think that is about the right point but never had it checked to be sure. If you find a clip-on inductive tach, just remember to set it for "double fire" or the tach will read twice the actual RPM.......and you will still have it too low. |
