Rear Shocks

Has anyone on this blog lowered their rear shocks for the GZ250.
I just wanted to buy shorter shocks but I've found out its not that simple cause i've been told that they don't make short shocks for the GZ250 (I'm still not sure if that is even true)
Please let me know what your experiences are and if you are able to help me find a solution.

I seem to remember a gal here lowered her GZ but can't remember who. Another alternative would be struts but then you have no rear suspension at all.

Just measure the length, and look for shorter ones.(Harley ones I believe.) The eye holes are pretty standard size.If not, the bushing can be changed.

Re: Rear Shocks

I thought it was a bit more complex than just getting shorter shocks.
It seems like most shocks are made specifically for certain bikes.
Well I'll head to my local bike shop and see what they recommend.
If anyone else has done this or attempted to do this let me know.

Re: Rear Shocks

Sharon Koontz lowered her front and rear suspension. The front was done by loosening the bolts that pinch the tripletree around the forks and sliding the forks up a little bit. The rear she lowered by finding shorter shocks. I'm stretching my memory, but they might have been the ones for a Kawasaki Eliminator 125. I rode down there last November and photographed the whole setup for this forum. I will now go and see if I can find that ancient thread, or if I still have the pictures.

Because she lowered the bike so much, she had to shorten the sidestand as well.

Here's the URL for the thread with the pictures I took of Sharon and her lowered GZ.

Re: Rear Shocks

Sharon and her lowering issue were discussed quite a bit in an old thread. Here is a quote from one of her posts, regarding the rear shocks she found:

"I have taken bits of advice from several of the riders on this site and I am very pleased with the results. I took my tape measure to bike shops and found that the Kowasaki 125 had the same type of shocks but only 10.5 inches compared to my 12 in. ones. I am waiting for them to come in. We lowered the front slightly and will be able to do more after the shocks are installed. I got some sturdy boots with a bit more tread."

Here's the URL of the whole thread. It runs to three pages, and a lot of it won't be useful to you, but you can look through it if you want.
