15,000 km service

Had the 15,000 km service done today. Looked at my records & realised it's over a year since the last service (10,000 km)-(small island = low mileage, even when the bike's used daily)

oil € 16.00
filter € 4.50
spark plug € 4.90
brake pads € 29.95
clean air filter
check valves
labour (1.8 hours at € 21.00/hr) €37.80
tax € 4.66

Total € 97.81 (around €150)

The point I'm really trying to make, is that the bike has seemed o.k., but......... When I rode it home - Oh boy, it was like riding a different bike. Smoother, more power. I'd grown so used to the day by day, slow, changes since the last service, that I'd not noticed them.

Made a mental note to try & remember what a freshly serviced bike feels like.

BTW, the bill for this year's registration has just arrived in the mail - € 12.11 ($ 18.00 ?) :)

That service would have been around $300.00 USD.

The labor rate is 70.00 plus 10% for shop supplies plus 10% tax.
So it works out to $84.70 per hour not counting parts.

I was quoted 2 hours to set the valves.

You have a good shop...

If you're talking gz250 (single cylinder) it's 1 hour. Everyone on the site seems to agree on that

I would consider that pretty cheap riding. There was a fair bit of time/labor involved overall. Lynda's GZ was an hour just to do the valves and the total was $100 Can 2 years ago.

Re: 15,000 km service

GZ 250 valve clearance takes 1 hr and it should be around $75 or so. When you take your bike to the shop tell them that you will pay only for 1 hr. I think the mechanics are paid by the hr so they spend more time on a bike. However the valve clearance is done when the engine is cold so either has to leave it overnight at the shop or you have to wait 2-3 hrs or more otherwise they might have to wait for cooling and charge you more.
