Good morning guys an gals. Just thinking about the next oil change and was wondering what filter others are using. Make and part number would be appreciated. A cross reference chart would be really neat to print out and have on hand. Thanks a bunch in advance.

They're all the same. I don't have a part number on hand. K&N is more expensive and filters more than the average filter. But it's more expensive.

Stock Suzuki Part
 

The stock Suzuki oil filter (at least for my 1999) is 16510-38240. The last five digits are also printed on the filter. The three other digits on the filter face appear to be code for date of manufacture and possibly location.

My local dealer was charging five bucks each.

Did some hunting around town today and was sucessful. No Zuk dealer here but the local Yammer dealer has both filters for the 250 and the VStrom. Auto parts stores are a bust here so Yamaha dealer gets the business. He seems to get a lot of our money and does his utmost to keep us happy. The local Canadian tire store has Amsoil 20-50. 2 U.S. quarts are 13.99 +taxes and enviro fees EACH. Makes for an expensive oil change but these puppies just work so well with Amsoil.

I've used several different brands ranging in price form around $3 to $12. With one exception that was a different color they looked identical. Only the packaging was different. I agree with Jonathan, they are all the same. Find the lowest price and lay in a stock of them.

Oil changes and filters are done on both bikes now. Will be interesting to see if there is a noticeable difference with the M/C specific oil. Am expecting some change just becuase the oil is fresh and the shifting should be a bit better. The 20-50 m/c Amsoil label says it also has shear specs the same as a 90 weight gear oil. How do they do that ?? HMMMM.
