Chain noise after 16t sprocket change
 

Hey all,

I just did the 16t sprocket change on my GZ and adjusted the chain back.
What Im noticing now (i really dont think it was there before), is that when im in first gear, and i pop my clutch, i hear the chain like.... skip almost and i see it. It only happens when i pop my clutch in a sudden kind of way. If i REALLY feather it, it doesnt really do it.
The slack on the chain seems ok but im thinking of tightening it up a bit more?
Am i missing something?
Just throwing it out there to see what y'all think about this or maybe you've experienced it before.

Sounds like your chain is to loose.The chain should have no more than 9/16" pf slack in the center between front & rear sprocket. ;) :)

so the sound im hearing is actually the play between gears in the transmission.
So whats happening is when im in first gear and i pop the clutch quickly, im hearing the backlash. Is that normal on these bikes? I dont know why I didnt notice it before I changed my front sprocket to a 16t. Im almost contemplating changing it back to see. Cant see how it could make a difference.
Even with the 16t sprocket, im struggling to get up to 100km/h.

Switch back to the 15 tooth sprocket and see/hear what happens.

15t sprocket went back in and the noise is all but gone. Upon closer inspection, it seems that the rubber dampener on the 15t does more than what i thought. It actually dampens the chain when you let off the clutch. Since the JT sprocket has no rubber, guess im sticking with the 15t for my road trip. I really dont wanna be riding around with that chain noise. Oh well, adapt and overcome.....

There is a Suzuki factory option for a 16T front sprocket that includes the sound dampener. I'd have to search to find the part number, but I know it's in the archives somewhere.
