157 miles trip

Ey everyone I have a question. Im planning on having a 157miles trip to San antonio with my gf on my 09GZ250. Does anyone know if the GZ 250 would be able to do it? to drive 2hrs and 30 mins straight at 65-70mph? since I only use my bike in the city I have never ridden on a highway for a long distance. Any comments??? can i damage the bike or anything for riding the bike at high speed for 2 hrs ?? thanks :??:

I wouldn't push her more than a steady 60/65.She do 70 for short bursts. But if you push too hard you may regret it.
:)

Ride an hour, take a break...repeat and there you are.

Make a nice easy trip.

ok so how long should I stop for the break?
15 mins? 30 mins? sometimes with my gf i can hit the 75, since she weights only 88lbs and i weight 168lbs.
So is it bad for the bike to be ridden at high speed for long times?
I have on my bike 14,000 miles.

I'm an old guy and here it is what I would suggest. Half the fun is getting there so take your time. Ride at 60 and enjoy the scenery. Stop every hour for a 10 minute leg stretch and to get your blood flowing to all the body parts again. You will find the trip to be more enjoyable and relaxing. Take your time, take pics of the sights and give your gal a hug.
I may be a little conservative with the speed but I have found that speed isn't everything on a ride.
Oh yeah, take water with you for your breaks and don't forget to give the bike a quick look over the night before. Check the tires for 2 up pressure and be sure the oil level is up too.

Re: 157 miles trip

168+88 = one healthy rider so 60-65mph is enough on a highway and it depends on the wind conditions on that day. for a small engine 70 and up is bad and as WW said enjoying is a bigger part then just going fast.

remember to have cell phones charged and let someone know about your whereabouts and mentally prepared for some simple unforeseen event like a flat tire that can bring some adventure to this trip. sometime people get frustrated easily when things are not so smooth.

good luck and have fun.

Re: 157 miles trip

Yeah take your time. I've done several 800 mile
round trips on mine.

The bike humms right along between 60/65.

There is less wind buffeting at 60. Makes for a much
more relaxed ride.

Get a throttle rocker. Little plastic doohickie rides
the right grip and can be positioned to allow your
palm to control speed.
