Can a petcock be soldered??

Hi all!

This question is actually with respect to my Suzuki Marauder VZ800, but it could happen to any bike. The nipple from the petcock that attaches to the fuel line below the shut off snapped off. Fortunately it happened when the bike was being reassembled from a valve adjustment, not while on the road. A replacement part is about $112 on Ron Ayers. Do you guys think JB weld or soldering would work? Something that is obviously impervious to gasoline.

What would you do???

If you can manage to get the broken piece out you can install a replacement. (They are press fit) ;) :)

I would a) contact someone parting out their bike or b) order it from mrcycles for $88.30 or c) try e-bay or d) craigslist.

JB will hold gas, I use iit on fuel tanks but I don,t know if it will hold the stress for long, if you try use the original or the industrial no the kwik and let it set overnight

you can put a pise of pipe inside to reinforce the connection

I don't know what an VZ800 petcock looks like, but here is for the GZ250 on ebay.

I know this is a little old, however, I would join the 2 pieces back together with a piece of aluminum tubing. Then use alumaweld to braze it all back up. Should make it stronger than before.
