GZ250: Idles ok, but when throttled up engine cuts

Hi guys, I just got a 1999 GZ250 - it ran ok for a few kms then started to act up.

The symptoms it showed was that initially the choke had to be on every time the bike started up. Then the engine started to cut out when rev-ved.

I have searched forums and watched videos - Im thinking this is a carb issue.

So far, I have:
1. Cleaned the carb with carb cleaner
2. Checked the airbox/airfilter

And I have found this -
1. Some dirt in the carb (which I cleaned out, made sure I could see through all the jets)
2. Adjusted the float which was sitting low to roughly 13 mm as according to the manual.
3. The Pilot screw does not have a spring, washer or O-ring. (It also does not change the idling speed when turned in or out with the engine running)
4. Airbox has a puddle of clean oil in it.

The bike still won't rev-up. What should I do about the pilot screw, and airbox with oil? What else should I check?

There is tube under the bike that empties the oil from cleaner box. Couple of ounces in coming out is about normal (just check that air filter isn't soaked). I think you may need to get needed parts for pilot screw. Full disassembly and cleaning of the carb would be a good idea. See Shaun Conley videos for good practices to avoid doing more damage than good.

Your issues won't be fixed till you get the parts for the pilot screw & than adjust with bike idling warm/
