Shock Ajustment Thread

So I have said in other Threads that when I get to 55-60 Mph the rear end of the bike vibrates/bounces not so much that I fear wrecking however I can't take the feeling for more than 10 to 15 minutes before my arse is toast. None of the other bikes I have owned did this, I could ride them all day. So I am on a quest to figure out whats up. After poking around various forums I thought maybe my shocks or spring might be worn out or need adjustment. With so little miles on the bike the guy at the local bike shop said he doubted the shocks were bad, but suggested that I change the settings that I didn't know were there. After a few minutes reading the manual I had them set. Heres how if you ever want to mess with it.

I was only able to take a short ride for fear of more t-storms. It didn't "cure" the problem but I did like the feel better, next I am off to have the tires balanced. Is anyone having this problem or had it with their Gz?

Balance your tires, definately, but I would also consider making sure that your chain is properly aligned and that you adjust the slack while your back there. The driveline is the second most important system of your bike. Take care of it.

Doing so will also ensure that your axles are set correctly and you aren't bumping down the road on a sideways rear tire.
Air up the tires too, just for good meaure.

I have my rear springs set to the 4th level. 5 feels too stiff and 3 feels like an old man.

Tires

I've not had a back tire problem ,but I did experience a front tire bounce so bad I had to park the bike . Mine was a brand new tire, but totally out of balance. We [dealer ] worked it out after a few tries , runs great now. The dealer stated that some tires are more difficult than others to balance, and he has replaced a few new tires that were just plain bad. I've always balanced car tires but this was my first problem with a motorcycle tire. Glad I had a nice bike shop that worked with me to solve the problem. CMS

Be sure they check for round and true while doing the balance.
A lot of places will swear to you the tires are fine when one is either out of round or not true because of a warped rim.

Good luck!

Sounds like a perfect time to go car-free!
You'd be amazed how much more money you'll have each month if you do it.

Maintenance, gas, insurance, and repair costs are driving the automobile into extinction. It's time for something different.
