Bike sometimes doesn't start.

For the last couple of days I've had an incident: after riding somewhere I later return to my bike only to sit on it for 10 or 15 minutes pushing the start button until it starts. I push the button and....Nothing. Like I'm not even pushing it. So, I jiggle the key, turn to the off position, put the kick stand down then back up, push the button again...ect. You get the idea. Then after a while, it will just start right up, like it never missed a beat. I think it's something electrical, but I don't even know where to start looking when it comes to the electrical side of things. Can anyone give me a clue?

Do you turn the key completely t0 the left?(anticlockwise) This is "park with rear light on" and will drain your battery. One "click" less is the correct position to remove the key.

When you turn the key to the on position do the signals and headlight work? Does the head light go out when you push the starter button.

I think you might have a contact issue on the starter button itself. How many miles are on your bike?

It's relatively easy to clean this if you feel comfortable opening the right hand control housing. A little WD-40 and either a q-tip or 5 should clean it right up.

I would have told you to check your kick stand switch as well, but you can eliminate that variable by starting the bike in neutral.

Easier still.... I just blasted into the housing with contact cleaner spray. Didn't take it apart, and it seems to have worked.

There you go. :)

Get that little nozzle up in there and spray away. It can't hurt anything.
