Re: Cold Weather Making Bike Lurch

I appreciate the help everyone. I was just referring to the temp. of the air. The problem I think is that when I ride I don't really go far enough to really get the engine sufficiently warm, so this...

Cold Weather Making Bike Lurch

I have a 2003 GZ 250 and had noticed the bike was lurching slightly when running in the top ends of first and second gear. Knowing from other issues with the bike in the past that the previous owner...

Air Filters

As the weather slowly becomes nicer, my thoughts turn to pulling out the bike from winter storage. When trying to decide what post-winter storage maintenance I should do, one of the ideas was to...

Ha! I will have the same courtesy there. It's a good school...although you and I will no doubt have differing opinions about the football program...

And yes, the Forrest Gump references are half...

New guy

My name is Forrest, I'm 20 years old out of Iowa City, IA. Taking classes here at the University. Got my 2003 GZ just this April and try and ride it every day I can. You probably have seen a few...

Re: Riding at Night

I could not agree more with you there. I have ridden my bike a few times without the helmet and I enjoy the feel of the wind a little more on my head, but I will always opt for the helmet when riding.

Re: Engine Ticks While Idling

You are on the ball there...I did lower the idling and have been adjusting to that sound. However, the ticking did not manifest after I lowered the idling. I also did go back and read a previous...

Re: Engine Ticks While Idling

Hmm. my bike is at about 7200 miles, but the oil was just recently changed (less than 1000 miles ago). Could you explain exactly what a "valve adjustment" is? Is it simple to do, or something I...

Engine Ticks While Idling

Just today I noticed a new sound coming from my GZ; a ticking. This only seemed to occur while I was waiting at a stoplight. Either that, or it continued while I was riding but I just couldn't hear...

Re: Filling Back Tire

Sorry, it's just the gas station I tried this at wasn't what I would call a "truck stop" at all; it is not located on any highway. However, I will certainly go looking around for one I can use....

Re: Filling Back Tire

The hose I used had just a straight steel end. (for example see: http://www.northerntool.com/images/prod ... 711_lg.jpg (http://www.northerntool.com/images/product/images/1591711_lg.jpg))

Filling Back Tire

I know it's good to keep an eye on the tire pressure, since the leading cause of tire failure is generally having an incorrect pressure.

But boy, that back tire on the GZ is tough to inflate! It...

Re: Gear Shifting

I tried this out when I rode home on the weekend. On the trip, there was a strong wind against me, so using 4th at this speed really helped me maintain my speed on hills, since even minor grades...

Re: Gear Shifting

I downsized out of both preference and necessity--I always really wanted a 250 as my starter bike. Also, in my area, I found it difficult to find a 400-500cc bike in my price range. Also, I wanted to...

Re: Riding at Night

Riding at night for me is uncomfortable; perhaps I'm not used to it. It also doesn't help that the first time I rode my bike out at night I got nailed by a deer. It throughly wrecked my first...

Gear Shifting

I have rode a motorcycle for about 6 months, 3 months of which I have spent with my GZ250. I have read the manual and at first really had to adjust to the gear ratio for shifting (my first bike was a...

Is there a good way to judge my RPM's? I don't have a tach on my bike.

Re: High Idling

Sure, that sounds like valid problems; what should I do to correct the problem? Should I try lubing my choke cable? How can I tell if it's the throttle or choke? I am quite a newbie on this.

Speed vs. Life of GZ250

Is using the GZ at highway speeds safe? That is to say, what sort of effects will running the bike near/at it's max rpms have on its engine? What can be done to allow the bike to handle speeds of 65...

Re: High Idling

Also forgot to mention that the bike backfires after I shut it off when it is idling this high.

High Idling

My 2003 seems to be idling unusually high, especially after a long ride at higher speeds. For example, I just came back from a 1.5 hour ride and averaged 55-70 mph. It started off ok, but I noticed...
