Re: No start: Have spark, have fuel, have air

I don't have a picture of it but it's really easy to locate, after you get the nut off. When you take the left side cover off and undo the nut on the crankshaft, you'll see a hole where the flywheel...

Re: Newbie... posted same question in "Introduce Yourself"

Really easy way to rule out spark is to pull the plug, attach the wire, and rest the plug against the engine while cranking. If you see spark, you have spark.

After that you're dealing with fuel...

Re: Tick tick clunk!

You should seriously make an attempt to ascertain compression. The quick and dirty way is to stick your thumb over the plug hole with the throttle open and a good battery to crank it. The compression...

Re: No start: Have spark, have fuel, have air

The bike was just sitting on my back patio, occasionally ridden when I could get it to stay lit for a lap around the block. I wouldn't dare take it farther. Yeah the bike was extremely erratic on...

Re: engine noise

I had "noise" in my top end and discovered a valve seat was so loose it could be taken out by hand. It likely had been dancing around in there every time the valve opened. That's a matter of miles...

Re: Dropping valves

Goose I'm really interested in your parts supplier. I'm looking for a source for valve seats that doesn't require I buy the whole damn head.

Re: Tick tick clunk!

Well good luck getting it all back together with the new part but I can pretty much guarantee that it will be something you did during the teardown and rebuild that's causing this, assuming it wasn't...

Re: Tick tick clunk!

If it's not backfiring out of the intake and exhaust, you're not 180 degrees off with cam timing compared to ignition.

This is simple stuff, probably solved by either

A) You need a new spark...

Re: Dropping valves

Eh, you just get a large sliding jaw C-Clamp (jaws at least 4") from a tool or hardware store and clamp between the valve face and the valve retainer at the back end, leaving enough room to use a...

Re: Dropping valves

Hey guys, it's good to know others are working on this problem. That definitely sucks about your issue, Goose. It's clearly a valve drop. It's just a question of whether the seat let go first.

Re: Dropping valves

Does anybody know where to get valve seats for these things? I've checked parts fiches on multiple sites and nowhere in the cylinder head or cam/valves pages can you find a valve seat. The closest it...

Re: Dropping valves

Problem found: So I was looking over the head again today trying to figure out what the deal was with the rattling at certain rpm and throttle positions that had made me take this thing apart in the...

Re: Dropping valves

Good info so far.

Well today I finished removing the head, and everything in there looks fine, which is baffling. There is a little bit of wiggle to the one exhaust valve I've pulled in the...

Re: Blown engine, any hope?

ovilc88, how many miles were on that engine when you dropped a valve? Was it an intake or exhaust? Any noise in the miles leading up to it?

Dropping valves

So this hasn't happened to me but sounds VERY impending based on head noise that's ratcheted up in the last few weeks. I've stopped riding the bike because of it. It seems to be an epidemic with...

Re: Where to buy lower tooth rear sprockets?

The 16 made me have to adjust the wheel forward. The 38 will make me adjust it backward again. I'm thinking it comes out in a wash. But if we're dealing with worst case scenarios, I'll deal with the...

Where to buy lower tooth rear sprockets?

I know this has been gone over, but I've searched and can't find where to actually buy the damn things. I usually go through ebay or bikebandit for this kind of stuff. I'm looking for a 38 tooth...

Re: How many miles on your bike?

Resurrecting this: Mine just crossed the 12,000 mile threshold, 10,000 miles after the starter clutch exploded and took out an oil passage on the side of the crankcase.

I'm in Orlando and know these things pretty darn well so if you still need it fixed for almost nothing (maybe even beer) I can help.
