Re: Choke cable problem

True!
After weeks of cold, wet, weather, it was NICE today!
High 60's (F) and sunny.
Rode for hours, maybe the last time for this year.
And, she didn't complain a bit. :)

Re: Rectifier, anyone used the ESR142 Electrosport?

Good thinking, IMO.

Re: Choke cable problem

Damn, all this time I have been doing it wrong!
Mine gives a bit of resistance from the mounts, but not much.
Well, learn something every day.
But - it is not impossible to do it that way, ...

Re: Choke cable problem

No, not at all. Six easy steps:
Remove the seat.
Remove the two bolts holding the back tab of the tank.
Remove the two (as I remember) rubber lines from the tank to the carb (at the carb). ...

Re: Rectifier, anyone used the ESR142 Electrosport?

It should tell you in the ad what condition the part is in.
If not, ask them.
The one I got looked as good as new, much better than the one I removed.
And although I am glad to hear that my...

Re: Rectifier, anyone used the ESR142 Electrosport?

Yep, sure sounds like you found the problem.
I have no experience/knowledge of that one you mention.
Mine went bad 2 or 3 years ago, and I replaced it with a used one.
I figured that even if it...

Re: Cylinder Head Removal

Yes, it can be done. I have done it.
The best advice I can give, besides keeping track of which holes the
bolts come out of (they are different lengths), is to get all
of the wiring and cables...

Re: I think I detonated my engine...

Whether it's luck or the grace of God or just good engineering and maintenance,
my friend, I'll take it!
I really have no choice; as I've mentioned before, I live in a village. What I may
not...

Re: I think I detonated my engine...

Afraid you bought the wrong bike for that. 70 is ok occasionally, but not every day, or for long distances.[/quote]

Please don't say that kind of thing around my bike!
I've had it for 7 years...

Re: Valve Adjustment

The best tool I've ever found for this is a US Silver Eagle. It fits perfectly. Put a piece of cloth
over it, and turn it using a pair of pliers.

Re: Help after a front brake job

Just a thought. Your bike is 14 years old. Sometimes, with age, the brake line(s) will get soft
and colapse. This can/will prevent the fluid from going back to the MC and will keep pressure
on...

BRR! That made my blood run cold just trying to visualize that scenario. Over the years I have noticed the bikes that have valve failures are the bikes that spend their time at higher revs and...

Re: Riding my bike....and it dies. Help?

It could be caused by a lot of things, including 'user error'.
Some folks, when they turn the key to 'off' go past the 'off' position
and end up with the key in the position where the back light...

Re: Used piston

No start, or not turning over at all?
IF it does turn over, is the petcock set to 'PRI' to get gas to the carb?
If it won't turn over, check the battery, then your fuses, then look for other...

Well, have you cleaned the air box? If not, do so, and make sure
to replace the plug at the end of the drain hose.

Check the routing of the hoses from the gas tank. Move the hoses if...

Re: Strange leak at cylinder top

Had that problem with mine (2006). Since I had a reason to dig into the engine for a different problem, I scraped the old sealer from the bottom of the head cover, cleaned it, and applied a good...

Re: Opened my Engine and this is what I found

No, it will not run.

I have seen that happen before, on a different air-cooled engine, twice.
No, luckily they weren't mine. :)
The first time saw it, it was caused by the exhaust valves ...
