Re: Rectifier, anyone used the ESR142 Electrosport?

Well, I guess I will just buy a used one. I noticed that one of the connectors on the aftermarket one is slightly different, and without an endorsment of how well they work, I'll just stick with...

Re: Spedometer stopped working half way!

I've had 4 or 5 bikes that have had the speedo stop working. They have all been a broken speedo cable. My GZ currently has a bad speedometer. I bought a new one to put on without even checking...

Re: Rectifier, anyone used the ESR142 Electrosport?

I did a search and your thread of your problem was one of the most helpful ones in identifying my problem. Thanks! :)

$10 is pretty good. there was one on eBay for $15 something, but the add...

Rectifier, anyone used the ESR142 Electrosport?

My GZ250 is not charging the battery. The voltage across the battery is about 12.8 with the bike off, and drops down when it's running. As the RPMs go up, the voltage seems to drop a bit, but is...

Re: Battery/ Charging issue + made worse by me

Thanks guys for the info, but I want the lifetime warranty one from Cycle Gear that plato1 mentioned. I have put two batteries in it over the last 7 years. This will be the third. A lifetime...

Re: Battery/ Charging issue + made worse by me

Plato1, do you have a part # for that battery? I'm not finding it on their site, and my battery is slowly giving up.

Re: Material for covering the seat?

Marine vinyl is probably what I need. Do you know where to get it?

I don't want the sheepskin 'cause it will hold water and my bike is outside most of the time. I could make a removable cover...

Material for covering the seat?

The seat on my GZ is falling apart (again). I need to get some material to cover it that will last and hold up to the sun. I recovered my seat 2 or 3 years ago with the heaviest material I could...

Re: GZ250 Backfire after decelration after carb clean

I think alantf is probably right, you are riding the bike too hard. And remember that the proper idle speed on these bikes is unusually high (1,300 RPMs).

BUT, if the shop owner that "cleaned"...

Re: Rear Brake issue

I had a problem like that after I changed the tube in the rear tire. It would grab hard and jerk, then work pretty much normally. I had forgotten to tighten the nut on the bar that attaches to the...

Re: just bought first bike, battery/charging problem

Your turn signal problem may be just the fuse. Take off the seat and pull up the plastic storage box underneath. The fuse box is there. The fuse for the turn signals is the second from the left in...

Re: Sputtering

Yes, if the vacuum line is off of the petcock you will not have "ON" or "RES" and it will run lean because it is sucking air. That would cause it to need the choke on to have the right fuel/air...

Re: Need throttle to start up bike

A little bit of throttle to get it started when it is cold out is normal for my bike. These bikes need the idle set pretty high, I've read 1400 RPMs, to stay running. If adjusting the idle screw...

Re: Hitler reacts to SOPA

I have to agree with mole2. This was a run around attempt to give the government and the ultra rich more power. It was worded in a way to protect those with power and take from those without it. ...

Re: How many of people are still riding this winter?

I usually wear thermal underwear in the winter and have a few layers of clothes. A leather duster with a fleece lined flannel shirt has been my winter coat for many years. I don't ride as much in...

How many of people are still riding this winter?

I rode the GZ today in Reno, and got some surprised looks and was called "hard core".

Hey, the snow melted and the rain mostly dried up. I'm saving money on gas. :2tup:

So what's...

Re: "BIKERS"

I think it depends on your point of view. In some places "biker" has some negative connotations to a lot of people (not all, but enough). Clubs with very large membership tend to have some bad...

Re: I am back!

Congrats on the bike! I've wanted a Honda Shadow since I got my first bike, a CB 750.

Have you got pics of it to share?

Re: Bike dies/won't start. Electrical problem.

I ended up having the bike not start twice more, less than a week after the last post. The bike needed the kick again both times to start. It didn't die or hesitate at all, but I ordered a...

Re: Start-up Problem

The dying at idle part may just be that it's not warmed up yet. If it is fully warmed up it is most likely the carb having some plugged up passages and needing a thorough cleaning. You may be able...

Re: trouble turning on my bike

I have to choke mine pretty much every time, even in the summer, so choke seems to be a common requirement on these.

Is the bike still under warranty? A year and a half doesn't sound like it...

Re: Tire changing video

Great info!

I just had to fix a flat on my GZ. I will add that at least on my rear tire (a Kenda Challenger), unseating the bead was not something that could be done by hand, or even by standing...

Re: Lights come on but wont start.

That certainly sounds like a starter switch then. Did you run the switch you installed to the actual starter or to the starter relay? I'm assuming you mean the starter relay. Running to the...

Re: Start-up Problem

After you verify that the spark plug is firing, I would try using some starter fluid in the air cleaner, as I suggested before. I really think it is a carb problem. The start circuit in the carb on...

Re: Lights come on but wont start.

Sorry, just too many contradictions............If there is no click (i.e. the starter relay pulling in) then it could definitely be a battery problem.

You say that no click means a circuit...
