Thanks for all of the advice. I do not plan on taking a long trip on such a small bike on the interstates. I probably will on back roads. If anything the only time I would ride it on the interstate...

No we were not able to find a reason. The bike had been sitting for a while before I got it. It is a 2001 with only 2960 miles on it.
