It may not be ALL of the problem, but you might want to try the pilot screw. The factory specs are terribly lean. Loosen out to 3 1/2 turns or so and see if that helps at all.

My bike (also an 05) has what sounds like the same problem.
I did a carb rebuild and it seemed to help a little, but not much, and it quickly reverted to it's old ways.
Getting it to start cold...
