NO, don't SPRAY anything on; spray it on a small piece of cloth and then wipe it on.
I usually don't worry about it unless it is real bad; then a quick rinse and blow dry (air compressor) gets most of it off.

And don't get silicone anywhere NEAR tires or brakes or hand grips or levers as it tends to migrate to places that you didn't put it and it is a BITCH to get off. I prefer WD40 but it's not as permanent as silicone.
