It depends on condition. If you are not familiar with motorcycles, take a friend who is. Check the general overall condition of everything. Check the tires for dry rot and checking on the side walls, wheels and spokes, cables, lights and signals. Check and see how easy it starts and how it sounds when it is running. If he will let you ride it, check brakes and how easy it shifts, etc. It all hinges on how well it was taken care of. Ask how often he serviced it and if he kept any repair invoices. Worst case scenario, you could probably part it out and get some of your money back. I am sure others will come onto the forum and give you additional and even better advice.
