People have fashioned brackets to move the controls further forward, or to move them up slightly, but moving them back under the seat would require a lot more work than I think most people realize.
Just have her spend more time on the bike and get comfortable with the factory setup. Unless she's way too short or way too tall, they'll serve her just fine.
