There are a large number of sub 1000 V-twins on the market. Cheaper to buy and own when you add in insurance and maintenance. Bigger means more fuel costs, bigger means more expensive tires too.
Not saying you shouldn't go bigger than 1000cc's but there are some nice lighter alternatives. I'm sure you could find a nice comfy bike without entering land yacht country.
