Sold
Well, I sold my gz250 yesterday. My wife was a little . We both enjoyed riding it but we need something a little bigger if she is going be riding 2 up with me all the time. We were going to try to keep it but finances were not strong enough for two bikes at this time. I was looking at a 2004 vl800 or a 2002 shadow 750. If anyone has any opinions on either of these bikes I would like to hear them. I have read a lot of reviews on both bikes but if anyone here has had any personal experience with either one , let me know.

Both are big enough and powerful enough for 2 up. Solid bikes with a good following. Lots of aftermarket goodies too. Take your wife along for a test sit or test ride if possible. You ride it alone then take a second ride with your wife.
Both bikes are water cooled, carbed and have a shaft drive probably. Look for a maintenance history if possible. Which bike will the wife be most comfy on? If both bikes are more or less a toss up and equal in your mind let her butt be the determining factor. You get the pleasure of the controls etc but she has to enjoy the ride as well. keep us in the loop. |

bought
well I bought this 1994 Honda magna 750. It is very mechanically sound. rides real smooth. just needs a paint job. we haven't been able to decide on a color yet, thinking a deep metallic blue or purple. this bike definitely has the power we needed.

Nice. I like that bike. Instruments where they should be and not on the tank. Mag style wheels and looks like a shaft too. The 2 of you should much happier now when riding with the added power and size. Well done.
Oh, before I forget. How did your wife like riding on the back seat compared to the GZ? Her comments would be useful for future upgraders. |

The other day I decided to pull the carbs on the magna and check them out and also change the spark plugs while it was down. The carbs were very clean so I decided to sync them. Today I put it all back together and started it up, then after it was warmed up I readjusted the idle. I ask the o' lady if she wanted to go for a ride and she said sure lets go get something to eat. We get geared up and headed out. About a mile from the house at a stop sign the magna started acting funny like it was flooding out or something. I was like wtf and . So all kind of things are going through my head. Then out of the blue the o' lady says " You should not have messed with the bike." That was the last thing I wanted to hear . So I'm checking the choke and the idle screw and anything else I can think of . Finally I shook the gas tank and low and behold I was out of gas . I switched to reserve and headed for the nearest gas station and filled it up. We went on our way with no other issues. What a relief.
