Amboy Crater... and part of Historic Route 66

Hi, there.
Here is the today(03/21/2009)'s ride..
As weather condition was pleasant, took alot of photos.
(many of them are for the Panoramic photos, so it might looks similar )
Distance: round trip for 400 miles, took about 10 hours.

Amboy Crater National Landmark.
It is located at the just bellow of Mojave Desert National Preserve.
To get to the crater, need to take Historic Route 66 highway for a while (about 50 miles).
Nature scenery and the landscapes are incredibly unique around the crater.
Photos are better than my few words.

AmBOY crater! Great out of the way place!

Glad to see your last trip didn't dampen your enthusaism. I suspect nothing dampens your enthusiasm. You are living the life my friend! At this rate, some day they will make a movie of your weekend exploits.

Sure doesn't seem like it. He went right back out into the Mojave after getting pummeled by the wind the week before. Good for you, Busy! Hey, you could've made a more scenic loop trip out of this by going past Joshua Tree to 29 Palms and then north through Sheep Hole Pass (very nice Mojave Desert scenery) on up to Amboy, then back on I-40/I-15.

How were your motorcycle boots for hiking? Look like you went at least a couple of miles. I couldn't quite tell how much you walked around once you got up into the crater.

What Wind???
Just a kidding...
Ha ha ha, as I was worried about windy weather condition at the desert,
I researched the weather's of Amboy in the last Friday night.
It said that YES windy at afternoon, mild 20 mph windy, starting about 3-4 pm.
Aha, I searched again how the 20 mph wind feels like.
20 mph wind >> small branch of tree starts moving, paper and dust gust starts roll up.
Um, I thought that's not good.
However, it says that 3-4 pm through the evening.
I may handle those >>>> ha ha ha >>> little bit effort was required to handle actually.
The wind was from both sides North and South of I40 freeway, which means Cross-Wind.
I had to tug-my-head-behind-small-windscreen to create aerodynamic shape, through out the I40 50 miles riding... ha ha ha
After some troubles with wind...
I bought a saddle bag (soft sports style) finally yesterday, and going to put some heavy stuffs in it. (Tools, air-pump, water, and etc....)
And put some lighter stuffs on the rear-bag, like cloths, electric gadgets, note-book, map,.....
It might be little bit helpful to lower the mass gravity points ??
Don't know yet about the results, and will try it how it works.

After looking the GPS Track, I felt also that I could have used different route to get the carter, as you have suggested.
And use I40 and I15 for the way back roads... um, it's done already.
The riding boots, yes I was little concerned about it before starting trail walk (1 miles round trip = total 2 miles and all gravel roads).
Amazingly, it was O.K., not bad at all.
My boots was commuter style boots and little bit softer than reqular hard boots.
And it has little shorter top end with very soft cover at the achilles side.
(something like tennis or basket ball shoes)

Anyway, waiting for the next weekend again.... ha ha ha

Hi, Mr. Alan.
I don't know yet.
Would you give/suggest me some good places for riding?
I'll look into it during the week, hoplefully some good weather too.

I think you are way better than me at picking places to go! I am thinking about a trip to Monterey... Interested? Probably stay overnight.
