IS the rubbing sound metallic or rubbery/plasticy?

Can you give us a better description?

Have you ever replaced your brake pads? My bike only has 1800 miles and it looks like it could use a change soon.

Worn brake pads are thinner than new brake pads... Don't wory about surface rust.

Take are a look at your service manual. We have a downloadable version.

this weird (metallic rubbing noise ) is definitely from the front worn out brake pads. i had the same issue and i changed my pads myself. if you have some idea follow the manual otherwise you have to pay $$ for such a small job. A long time ago i posted a note about changing pads that you have to be careful for certain thing when doing that.

just from outside you cannot figure out easily if the pads are worn out. they are depp inside the assembly. when you will take them out you can compare to the new ones to see the difference. if it better to change ASAP otherwise the meatl will scratch the disk brake.

Definitely from the brakes but not necessarily worn out.
Sounds like he's gonna see the dealer, which is good.
A LOT of GZ owners (including me) report squeeling front brakes when there is nothing really wrong.
I certainly hope to get more that 4500 miles from mine.
