Incomplete generator

Hi guys! I'm an FNG around here -- just got my GZ250. I won it on eBay for a really good price because it was repo'd and is missing some parts ...

Well, that's not as bad as it sounds. The only thing that's not intact are the components underneath the generator cover.

I took some pictures this evening while I had it open so you can get an idea of what I'm dealing with here: http://www.mcclearyconsulting.net/im...250-generator/

Basically, from what I've found on the Web, it looks like I'm missing just about everything in there except the shaft seal and the stator. Can anyone give me their assessment?

I'd sure like to get the bike running asap, and screwdrivers don't scare me. What's my best bet for obtaining these parts? I found a source online that seems to have everything I need (for about $450 shipped) but I'm wondering if there's a cheaper way of doing this. Buy a seized engine and harvest the parts, perhaps?

Good to be here among friends. Ride safe!

I'm certainly not the best one to answer this, but you should check out the Fiche diagrams for these parts:

Very good pictures BTW.

Thanks patrick. Those are very helpful.

Wondering if buying the parts new (from cycle-parts.com) is my best bet, or if there's a better used source available. Are there any online junkyards?

Ronayers is ususally the best place for factory replacement parts.

I don't know of any online junkyards but this is a pretty good resource: http://www.bikersindex.com/junkyards.html

My question is, who takes out the parts from a small motorcycle generator and leaves everything else?

If you look in one of the photos you can see where something (probably a bolt) came loose and scraped around inside the generator housing -- broke a hole in one of the oil galleys too.

My understanding is, the bike was at a shop, torn apart and having this damage worked on, when the repo man showed up and took it away without the bike being reassembled. Either the parts got left at the shop or they got lost at some point.

It's a bummer, since it probably runs great with the right parts.

Does anyone have a picture of a complete generator / starter clutch assembly? The microfiche is helpful but it's not showing me how it all (starter and crankshaft) works together.
