First thing - why not ask the previous owner (politely) if there was a problem for him. He may have genuinely forgotten to give you the key to the tank (if, for some reason it was different to the ignition key)

EDIT :- you beat me to it! You must have just beaten me to it when I was posting this. :2tup:

At this point, if you've tried the other suggestions made here, that's what I'd do. There's no reason for you to have to fight this on a new purchase (it is a new purchase even if it's not a new bike).

If you have to get a new cap that takes a different key, be sure to keep the old key for the other locks.

Re: Can't open the gas cap...

So apparently the dealer has another (different) key in their possession that they didn't give me because they thought it was unnecessary.

Makes me question how well they inspected this bike when the previous owner traded it in if they didn't even try opening the tank. Oh well, let's just hope this new key will solve my problem...

If it does, then what will you do next ??
(Yes, this IS a test !!)

Hint: One of the advantages to having both keys the same IS.......you can never be out riding without having a gas tank key with you.

Re: Can't open the gas cap...

Are you suggesting I replace all the locks so that I have a single key? We'll see...

REALLY close.

A locksmith can change one so that they match.
The gas cap would probably be the easiest.....and cheapest.

Don't forget the seat.....but I think almost any key will work there.

Also you should end up with at least 3 keys: 1 for the bike, 1 for your pocket and 1 left at home.
