new battery no power at all, what next?

okay hopefully some wiser motrcycling heads that i.. total noob pretty much when it comes to fixing bikes.. will be able to help me

i have a gz250 that has been stood for 6 months.... i changed the battery..... and no power still on turning the key, nothing , no neutral light no anything

my gut says check fuses and that the problem must be electrical in nature ... wiring diagram may be the first step

any and all help appreciated

Charge it over night at 2 amps or less.

I am surprised that a new battery would be totally dead but Blaine is right. Always fully charge it before using. If you still don't have power, then you start tracking down the problem. And all of us here are willing to help. Good luck.

well yeah i ve bought 4-5 batteries before that didnht need charging at all

but they also didt require me to add the acid manually either...

anyways its running fine now

Ok my sons bike has a nee battery, a closed cell type... when we first put it in it started right up no issues, it slowlg over the nezt several days started getting weaker...

The bike sat for avout 2 weeks while we repaired the head gasket, now, he said it started right io and within 90 seconds it started dimming and now its dead. Rectifier issue?

Did you fully charge the battery to begin with? Also, please clarify, the power diminished while the bike was running? If so, then you might have a bad rectifier. Check with Alantf on this forum, as he is really sharp with electrical issues.

Do sealed batteries require an initial charge? It came with the electrolite already installed.

And so he said he had to push start it, once it turnes over and started, the headlight got brighter. He rode for about 3 minutes and then it jist quit and all the lights quit. There isnt even enough power to turn the starter. Head lihht is dim and neuteal lihht flickers when tryinf to crank (this im guessing says yhe starter relay is good?)

Yes they do.

Be sure to use an appropriate charger for a motorcycle battery (.75 amps). Do NOT use a car charger or you will fry your battery. We just recently gave the same advice to another new member. Car chargers are a big NO NO.
