help! rear suspension question

i have a 99 gz250x (bobber style)
the previous owner has taken the rear shocks off and just replaced them with short pipes for what ever reason i dnt care, but my question is, how do i put the shocks back on? it "looks" fairly straight forward enough, although i am very much an amateur when it comes to motorcycles and know next to nothing... help please

Did the previous owner cut off the shock mounts? If not just install new shocks.

When I dropped my ass end I just took a angle grinder and clipped the springs, don't have to be exactly even but you want them to be close.
