Re: Blizzard !!

Not a "real" snow. Our major snows would be a dusting to you... 7 to 16 inches. But, more often than not we would have an inch or more of sleet under that.

Re: Blizzard !!

Sleet under snow. Ugh, that is nasty stuff. And heavy too. You can't walk in it, shovel it or blow it away successfully.

Re: Blizzard !!

We had a blizzard here last night. We got about 1/2" of snow. It was melted and gone by 2 in the afternoon. It sure beats those snow storms of the past when I lived on Long Island. Yup, we're having our week of winter here this week. lol :hide:

Re: Blizzard !!

I think I mentioned this once before, but if I did, here it comes again anyway.
In northern NJ in 1995 we had almost every other day for a month or two, snowstorms of 18"-2', alternating with freezing rain and temps in the 20's during the day and single digits at night, so none of that ever melted. When the snowplows came by at night, they left a sheet of ice on the roads that the salt never melted, and a 4-6' pile of snow and ice blocking off my driveway that I just spent 6 hours snowblowing to clean off. I got no mail delivery for over 2 weeks because the post office said that if the town couldn't keep the roads clean, they weren't going to go out and get killed trying to deliver mail. In order for me to get out of my house and up my driveway and to get to work day and night, I had to get myself a full-sized Desert Storm Hummer and that thing was unstoppable even driving through 2-3' of ice and snow.
I had a lot of fun back then, but I don't miss those days now.

Re: Blizzard !!

Wow , that would have been gruesome. At least you had the right tool for the job.

Re: Blizzard !!

And the sleet would pull down the power lines and fences... we either spent all day working accidents, or chasing cattle and mending fences.

Ice under snow is a terrible thing

Re: Blizzard !!

One nice thing about living here is I can go outside in summer heat and see snow on the mountains. When I first moved here I was totally dumdfounded to see a motorcycle go by towing a canoe that was loaded with golf clubs, skis', fishing gear and camping gear. Must have been an interesting weekend!
