Newer Rider, New GZ owner

Hello all glade to be a part of this community. I just bought my first bike last week and love it. Its a new GZ250 2009 that I plan on using to drive to work and back to save some big $$$$ on gas.

I am having a little problem with getting the wheel lock to work for some reason I cant turn the key into the lock position when i have the handle bars turned all the way to the left.

Welcome.Getting the bars to lock is a problem on these bikes. You need to wiggle the bars back and forth while turning the key to "lock".Just be careful, not to turn the key back to the "park" position,or the tail light will be on and you will be sitting with a dead battery.

Do you have a windshield? Some of the aftermarket windshields, depending on how they mounted, can prevent the wheel from turning all the way to the left. And ditto what blaine said about the park position. Did that twice and drained my battery before I learned my lesson.

Nope no windshield and I am pretty sure I am turning it all the way to the left, but the key wont budge. Do you think this is something i should take up with the dealer or something I am doing wrong?

Try what I said earlier,if that don't work, than I would definitely take it back to the dealer.

Sometimes you need to move the bars SLIGHTLY to the right from full left to get it to work. :2tup:

Re: Newer Rider, New GZ owner

I have an '08 and do not have this problem (excepting when I was unable to turn all the way because of my windshield.) Not sure if this helps, but I would say if you continue to have the problem it's worth having the dealer take a look at it. Sounds like it might just be a minor adjustment to a "safety" feature.

Re: Newer Rider, New GZ owner

Did you push the key 'in' while turning it towards 'lock'. That, and moving the bars slightly off full left lock does the trick for me.

Welcome aboard Ted! Since you are a new rider my recommendation is to take the MSF BRC (Motorcycle Safety Foundation Basic Rider Course) so you get off on the right foot and not develop bad habits. Good luck and ride safe.
