A Useful Tip from the BMW Forum

It seems that the GZ isn't the only bike with very shallow contact surfaces (flats) on its oil drain bolt. Some BMW owners have had them strip out. Mine isn't like that, but I gather some of the K bikes are, as well as some of the newer F and G bikes. Anyway, someone made an observation that the ends of socket wrench sockets are rounded - in effect beveled. If you carefully grind the end of the socket so that the end is flat, you can increase, and in some cases almost double the contact surface between the socket and the flats on the drain bolt. I'm going to take an old or extra socket of the right size and do that before my next oil/filter change.

Good one!
We all need a little ribbing once in a while, instead of an attack.
