Silly question regarding oil

I didn't see where this has been addressed in the past so I figure il ask. I was having some overheating issues when it got to about 80 out so I did a quick oil change with some automotive dyno juice. Never did the filter so today I am changing the filter and I was wondering, can I feed it 20w50 synthetic? Just to keep it cool? It runs pretty hot even on the highway going 55 constant.

ticker oil don't solve overheating problems only put more stress on the oil pump increasing the fuel consumption an lower the power output of the engine.

Automotive oil contain friction modifiers and will damage the clutch .
I recommend rotella 15w-40, is inexpensive and certify for Japanese motorcycles.

This engines run very hot because the carburetor is tun very lean to met emissions and is the main reason for damage exhaust valves

Qasual - I actually differ a little from what Raul said assuming he meant Rotella T6. I would not use that brand even if it is Jaso approved.

I have used Rotell-T in many bikes.Never a problem.Over 45000 km on my G.Z. when I sold it & still ran like new!!

Rotella 15-40 will be a good oil for the GZ. We ran it in both the Vstrom 650 and Suzuki M-50 with good results. I was using it before the actual certification was made and had no problems. Just keep one thing in mind. If the Rotella can survive in a loaded 18 wheeler a GZ will never lack any protection. Cheap and easy to find too.

Another Rotella user.

I use both the T-6 and the 15w 40.

I think re gearing would work magic,I have seen mixed reviews but I am confident that it has enough power it just revs too damn high to stay at speed.
