9-Piece Motorcycle Saddlebag Luggage Set

Just ordered a "9-Piece Motorcycle Saddlebag Luggage Set" off of Amazon.

W/ shipping it was just under $66.00.

The items had mixed reviews, but I know a leather worker, so if something needs "shoring" up, hopefully I can get it done w/ little cost.

Here is the best picture I found of the set:

Here are the specs:

$66 isn't a lot to gamble in this day and age. You may have made the best deal of the year and have the bags till you get tired of looking at them.

** STAY AWAY FROM THESE OR ANY SIMILAR **

Cardboard wrapped up in leather pieces all sewn together. (It isn't the sewn leather, it is its thinness and that there is cardboard inside the leather.... +water == bad news).

Plastic clips on barrel bag snapped when unclipping.

Stretchable "strings" to tie saddle bags together... bah.

I'll post pics later.

Ouch, that kinda sucks. The bags must be ment for a parking lot on a sunny day. But on the flip side you might have great patterns to make real bags later on. If you do not find textile bags a bad idea you could try Nelson-Rigg or Cortech luggage. They do make a quality product that is actually designed to be used and can be abused a bit without a failure. Some of the bags are expandable so you can pack like crazy if you want to.

Re: 9-Piece Motorcycle Saddlebag Luggage Set

Just do a Google for Cortech or Nelson-Rigg motorcycle luggage. Also check with MotorcycleGear.com in the luggage and closeout section. When they buy up old stock(last year's model) they have some mighty attractive prices. Lynda has the N-R stuff and is very happy with it. Her bags would be too big for the GZ but do some checking on the measurements of the available bags. A nice size bag for the GZ that is expandable would be nice to have on a trip. If you are getting a sissy bar for the bike you can put a bag on that fits the sissy bar and sits upright.
Good textile bags are a lot cheaper than getting some of the hard cases on the market and you can usually put more stuff in them due to flexibility and all sorts of compartments. I do have hard cases on the Vstrom and their only advantage is they are lockable and waterproof. Most good textile bags do come with plastic rain covers so it is not a big deal in the rain.
