Measuring Fork Width

I was looking at windshields on ebay from cycleshields and in the description it says to measure the fork tube diameter and width. Now I understand the tube diameter but how is the width measured? Is it center to center or from the two outermost points? I emailed the guy with my question a few days ago but no reply.

Also,
I like the looks of that Plexistar2 shield because it would provide better cold weather protection for my hands/arms (fork width not an issue on this one). However, If someone were to drop the bike, wouldnt it be more prone to breakage since its as wide as the bars? This question is what got me looking at the narrower shields.

I think that must be a typo. Diameter is the same as width. Maybe they are confusing diameter with circumference.

The width of a circle cannot be more or less than the diameter. They are the same. Diameter is the measurement from one wall of the circle to the opposite wall, passing through the center.
Circumference is the total measurement around the circle.

Also, if you know either the circumference or the diameter, you can caclulate the other.

By width they mean from one tube to the other. I just dont know if I should be measuring from center to center or outside edge to outside edge.

The Plexistar2 is not wider than the handle bars though it may look that way in the photos. If you drop the bike all bets are off. Narrow ones get damaged in a fall too. I have two personal experiences with this and can post photos of one of the windshields. It's still in use.

I've had a Plexstar2 for more than a year. For weather protection its hard to beat. Its a bit complicated to install because it just fits and getting it adjusted is a bit of a chore. It may need to be cut for a short rider.

Bob, is the windshield the question the one you had on the Alabama trip?
If so, I'll second his personal review and just say that it looked like it would be awesome to have; especially now that cold wind seems to find every sliver of space of your riding outfit to get into.
