What's a jockey shifter? I'm English, so I've never heard the word. Is it an American term? If so, what is it?

I think it is a hand control gear changer, usually a lever attached to the foot changer and coming up to the side of the fuel tank.

Also known as a suicide shifter. You will need to figure a way for the clutch to be operated by the left foot too. Very old school and a clumsy way to do things. This system is quite common on old H-D side car rigs.
