MPG?

Hi, i just bought a 2000 GZ250. First tank of gas was 86 MPG!!! Is this typical?

Maybe but probably not. Average of the reports I remember seeing is about 65. Some as high as 75. Your 85 figure is, no doubt, possible with a VERY conservative riding style but most likely it is partly due to not filling the tank to the same level as you started with.

I got 80mpg with mine every so often. Badbob gets some great mileage with his.

I get a pretty consistant 65mpg around town. I get a bit better long distance, but not a lot better, since I only travel two-lane roads and end up going through a lot of small towns.

whooo, never get that much on 05 GZ. if you stay 50-55mph than its possible, at faster sppeds milage drops. i average around 62-65mpg. i commute 50 miles/day.

My commute is 34 miles round trip. All back roads, and I don't exceed 40 MPH.

When I filled the tank it was real close to full both times. ( the difference between 65MPG & 85MPG for 147 miles is over .5 gallon. I'm sure that wasn't the case )

Well, riding like that most of the time, you just might get 85 mpg!

To get a true picture of your mileage, you need to total the miles and gallons for 3 or 4 fill-ups. True for any vehicle, not just bikes.

Anybody here traveling 4 miles round trip with 4-5 stop lights everyday? I just get 39 miles per gallon "max" (average 37MPG). I know something is definitely wrong... I need to send it back for warranty check/repair.

I need to know how much mileage people close to my travel distance are also getting so I have a point of comparison.

When i was on vacation in the mountains of Norther GA, keeping it under 40 mph, I was averaging 100 mpg.
On my commute to work, if i keep it 55-60 mph, I avg 85-90 mpg, depending on how much head wind.
My weekend outings, which include steep hills, lots of stop and go (lots of stop signs on farming country roads), I average 70+mpg.
The only time I have not got this good mpg is when I came back from my vacation, and I was running interstate at 70-75mph thru the hills of kentucky, but I still got 65+mpg.

yes I fill to close to same level each time. I have made a small notch(scratch) inside my gas tank (dont ask, dont tell) which I fill to each time. I place my bike on its kick stand each time and I am aware the pavement level may not be the same, but only by a tenth or so of a gallon of gas.

I am constantly geting 220+ miles before I go on reserve (which I try not to)

Last few fill ups:
160 miles-2.1 gallon
190 miles-2.3 gallon
200 miles-2.6 gallon
While on vacation:
80 miles-0.8 gallon
110 miles-1.1 gallon
I assumed this gas mileage was due to lower constant long speeds (35-40mph for 2 or more hours) and the higher elevation of the appalacian mountains.

Gas mileage depends on your riding style, riding/shifting techniques and is completely different from each rider to the next. My riding buddy rides a suzuki 350cc dual sport and constantly gets 110+mpg (and has done this for years), and he weighs a lot more than I do.
