Re: Hey guys, An update on everything over here :)

What would be an indicator that it needs replacement?

The Suzuki service manual should have measurements to determine chain replacement. It will be a specific distance over a specific number of links. No more than "X" millimeters over a certain number of links measured from pin to pin. When I measured the Vstrom chain after 25,000 km it was just a bit past the maximum allowed so I just replaced the chain and both sprockets.

It should last at least three times that if you clean and lube it regularly.

For what, adjustment or replacement ??

Chains and sprockets are NOT replaced on a "schedule" but when they start to wear out.

They should be checked at least every 1K miles or so and may not need adjustment for 4-5K.
When they start requiring adjustment much more often or show other signs of wear, THEN it's time to replace.......hopefully a LOT more than 5,000 miles.

If you have a brand new bike, you want to check it more often in the first couple of thousand miles as it may need a couple of adjustments as it "breaks in".
