Speedo issue

Hey all,

So this 01 gz250 i just bought has a weird speedo issue. First of all, the stem for the trip odometer is broken (If i shine a light inside, i can see the threaded piece it attaches to) Im wondering if I can just buy the black stem and just thread it on?

But anyways, the actual issue is the fact that in the morning when I start the bike and take off for work, the speedo will not work. But when I tap it with my hand, it magically starts working. Is there something I can fix/rebuild with my current one or do I have to get a used one? I cant seem to find a Km/h one on ebay (i live in canada).

I took the speedo off and everything, but I cant seem to take it apart. There are 2 small screws that I take off which loosens the speedo from the housing, but I cant figure out how to take it apart. I dont see another fastener. Do I have to pry it off?

Anyways, thanks for any input guys. very much appreciated.
