Brake pads shape

Hi all!

I'm in need of a brake pad change, so I went to a local parts store and they said I need a type which differs in shape compared to the ones I have right now. I'm confused. Even searching on Google shows me different shaped pads. I seriously doubt any of the other shapes would fit properly in my caliper.
Here's an example of the two shapes that got me confused: the first ones were offered by the shop, the second ones are on my bike.

Can anyone shed some light on this?

Thanks!

T.

Re: Brake pads shape

Seems like neither set is anything like what are on my bike. For one thing, GZ pads have only one wear groove. Only way is to remove your pads and take them to the bike shop for comparison. That's the way the bike shop mechanic, who changes mine, does it. He takes the pads out, then takes one to the rack of pads and picks the ones that look the same.

BTW, unless Suzuki have changed the calipers, and told no one, the second set aren't remotely like GZ pads.

Re: Brake pads shape

Can you post a picture of your calipers? we may be able to tell if they are original, or if someone has swapped them for non GZ calipers.

Re: Brake pads shape

I will do that, but just by doing a google image search i can tell that my caliper is genuine, and so are the pads.. I just don't understand if more than one pad shape fits in that caliper, or if Suzuki put different calipers on different production years or countries..

Re: Brake pads shape

In the two pictures, the position of the locating dowel hole is in completely different positions, so It wouldn't be possible for them both to fit in the same caliper. Only thing you can do is to get the same shape pads as are in now.

Re: Brake pads shape

the first picture (vbp207) is the right shape of brake pads i use for my gz250 (2005). But you are writing from another location, so may be... did you buy a used bike and probably the owner did some modification.

as Alan said, in the lower picture (BM-BP-FT 004) the hole for the brake pad mounting bolt is on the side. these won't fit and work in my caliper so if your brake was working right, you have a different kind.

Re: Brake pads shape

Sorry for being completely retarded. I took the caliper off the bike, and what do you know? The pads were what everyone's been telling me they should be. Dunno why I saw them as something else when they were on the bike. Sorry for this thread.

Thanks!
