Dont want to crush one.

Hello from NC. I am new to the world of motorcycles. Until yesterday, I had never ridden one. Went to one of the motorcycle safety classes held nearby, and used a GZ250 both days, about 15 or 16 hours on one of these little machines, and I fell in love with it. I suppose that's the way I am, I what I learn on is what I love. I'm sure you've all seen it, fat guy on a little bike. That pretty much describes me on the GZ250, but I'm not out to maintain an image, I'm out to be on 2 wheels. I'm thinking of buying one to ride since this is what I learned on, to help me learn more, before I get more power and weight in a bike. I'm not looking for speed or acceleration, I am looking just to help me on my way to being confident enough for a larger, heavier bike. Would this do me well, or am I just too big for this thing. I don't live in the mountains, Im in central NC, so a few small hills here and there, but mostly flat lands.

Re: Dont want to crush one.

Kinda hard to tell if you are too big without telling us how much you weigh. However, I can tell you that I weigh about 250 lbs and have no problem getting this little bike to go. Hills can be troublesome, but that won't change by losing weight. It's just the nature of the beast.

Re: Dont want to crush one.

Thought I had put it in there, but had a brain fart. Im about 6'3 and 300. It did fine in the parking lot we trained in, and had enough power to scare me ****less, but that's because I'd had 0 seat time. Never had it out on the road, so I don't know how it would suit me out there.

Re: Dont want to crush one.

The GZ250 can carry 475 lbs worth of passengers (GVWR of 775 lbs minus bike weight of 300 lbs).

Re: Dont want to crush one.

I think it's more wind resistance rather than pure weight that limits the speed. But I weigh just a little more than half of what you do, so I guess I'm not a good judge. This is the bike I got to get comfortable before trading up. I've got about 1350 miles on it so far and I might never trade it. It's good for everything but the freeway.

Re: Dont want to crush one.

Im not looking for a freeway rider, I dont like interstates all that much even on 4 wheels. I was wondering about the wind resistance too, would a windshield help with this, since its angled and whatnot?

Re: Dont want to crush one.

Thanks a lot. I think I'd like a windshield anyway, but that convinces me even more to buy one when I buy a bike. So far, the replies here have convinced me to get the GZ, plus I'm familiar with it, which I think might help me slightly. Now I just need some cash, haha. Anyone want a Grand Wagoneer

Re: Dont want to crush one.

Go for it! Stick it to all of those "image is everything" riders!

I'm a little tall for my GZ, and I wear mismatched gear. I'm loving every stinking day of it!

Brother, I'm 6'-1" and weigh about 280 lbs. No problem on a GZ.
