First ride on new GZ 250.

Mind blowing :skull: , Just picked up my first (2nd hand) GZ 250, had the most fantastic ride from the sellers place.

Semi rural, along the motorway for 25k, through the city, up and down the windy hill, out to the coast, and home to the bungalow. Wellington , New Zealand.

The most thrilling ride Ive ever had. Had my friend trailing behind in his V6, lucky he got to measure the speed for me, because the speedometer is about 10 km out of sync. Ill have to take it easy.

Un- intentional speeding.

Im really glad i had the opportunity to buy buy one.
What a Brilliant bike.

Congrats on your new bike! I've had mine for a little less than a year, and it's one of the best purchases I've ever made. Welcome to the forum. This is a fantastic group that's full of excellent advice and encouragement. Ride safe!

OCG, you will find that most bike speedos are very optomistic and read a higher speed than the actual speed. I see you are from Wellington. We also have a member in Auckland. Nice to be getting a larger international presence on the forum.

Another kiwi! awesome. Whats the riding like it wellington ? Its pretty crazy in traffic in Auckland.
You should really enjoy it, they're good fun. Although welly is pretty hilly as well from what I remember ?

Just got my bike a new Warrant of fittness and Registration, new chain and sprockets, and new riding boots today. Just shy of $600 later. She rides even better now though, so it was worth it.

Warrant of fitness. Is that the same as the yearly safety inspection sticker we have in the states?

My guess would be a YES. Another example of being separated by a common language.

In England it's the "M.O.T. test" (Ministry Of Transport)
In Spain it's the "I.T.V." (Inspeccion Technical Vehiculos)

Yes its a safety inspection.
Its a 6 monthly inspection here. Unless your vehicle is under 6yrs old then it is yearly. Registration can be 3/6/12 months, depends how much you want to pay at the time. Currently $414.53 a year for motorbikes under 600cc. You dont want to know how much it costs for motorbikes over that.... :/

The NZ govt knows how to sting ya.

*edit, wrong price...

What is the insurance cost on a GZ? Here in the province of British Columbia we are forced to buy ins from the government and you just know that will never be a competitive price with a real ins company. They have a wonderful way of determining who is at fault too. If I am rear ended while at a stop I am 25% at fault just because I was there to be hit.
Another brilliant idea is charging by engine size only. A 600 sport bike is the same as my lowly 650 Vstrom even though the sport bike will have twice the power and likely(actually proven)to be involved in more accidents and offences. Don't these gov officials study any real data?
