lowering question

ok so basically the previous owner of my bike took the rear suspension off and replaced them with short rods to the point where the seat is just above the rear wheel. i put the suspension back on today to see what it looked like and it just wont do. so im wondering if there is a way to still have a lower bike but with the suspenion on. compressed springs? shortened shocks? after market? or perhaps the suspenion from another bike? :??:

The shocks from a Suzuki Savage (S40) will work & look great. about as short as you can get (10").

Cheers for the tip. Now on the off chance that for what ever reason I don't go with them, is it possible to compress the springs and shorten the shocks?

Compressing the springs means nothing is the housing itself is still a certain length. The Rat-rod or street builder trick for doing this is making some homemade dog bones out of some bar stock. Determine what length you want them to be, have someone add some eye holes on each end and slap them on the back. This makes your bike a hard tail, so if you don't want to vibrate your nuts off, you'll need to add some springs to your seat.

I have taken them apart & cut 2 or 3 coils out of the springs.Depending on the style of shock will determine how they come apart.Some aftermarket shocks are easy,while some OEM are a pain to get apart.The last set I done were 11" aftermarket & I took out two coils.I ended up with a set of 9" shocks.Not a lot of travel left,but enough to soften the bumps.Also hardtails will not pass safety inspection here in P.E.I.

I didn't think there were aftermarket shocks n springs for the gz250?

There are a lot of aftermarket shocks that come with different size bushings that will fit many different applications.

cheers for that. yet another question... my bikes set up for eye to eye type shocks. does that mean i'm stuck with that particular type or is it easy enough to modify the bottom to fit the "clevis" SORRY for all the terribly noobish questions :retard:

I would stay with the "eye to eye" as that is the most popular & widely used.These are the ones I used.But if you can find a set for a S40 you won't need to do anything but install them
