Oil For Chain?

Gday all, just wondering if there is specific oil to use for the chain or will pretty much any lubricant do ie wd-40?

No, WD40's much too thin. I use a spray called "chain oil" :whistle: but that's because I can't get the teflon spray that seems highly recommended. I don't know the brand name, but I'm sure that WW knows what it's called.

This is what I use and I find it excellent for lubing pivot points and cables.Goes on thin enough to penetrate & gets tacky to stay put.

Yup, that is the one. Very cost effective compared to most chain lubes and a lot cleaner with little fling off.

for years I used PJ1 "Black" (which worked awesome), but was not very "fling" resistant and was making a mess of all my bikes. I switched to the "Blue" formula a few year back, and still works great, but I am observing less "fling mess" . :2tup:

A good example of no fling after 25,000kms(15,500miles) on the Vstrom front sprocket and cover. Prior to that with other chain lubes there would be a mass of gunk inside the cover and the chain would run around in an area it carved out. DuPont is surprisingly clean. The entire bike does stay cleaner so I will never complain even if the price doubles to match some of the other socalled good chain lubes on the market.

You are probably right. The dirty pics are after 25,000 kms. Previously to that the inside of the cover and the clutch mechanism were just a horrible mess that resembled black sticky clay. Belts and drive shaft bikes are cleaner. One of the major selling points for Lynda when she picked up her M-50 with a shaft.
