throttle cable broken

Hi Peeps, I'm a newish rider, VERY newish mechanic, and need some input before I dive in...
A friend came by and helped me narrow down the need for a new starter relay, and when it gets here, I think I can solve one problem. However, while we were going over "lil red", I discovered that there appears to be 2 cables leading to the throttle. One was broken, but the throttle appears to be still functional. Can that be true, and is there anything I should be aware of before I purchase a new cable (or two) and dive in to tearing apart the throttle? and thanks in advance, pretty cool to feel like someone with a brain is holding my hand on this new adventure!

The two cables-yes-One to open the throttle and one to close it, but there's also a spring to help close it, so it may be closing ok. The GZ's the first bike I've had with two cables, the others have just had the spring, so someone else may come along here to say just how important the "closing" cable is.

ty

ty alan, I found a diagram that shows me how everything in the cable assembly fits together. My biggest concern when taking apart anything with springs, is something flying apart in the process, before I can see how it fits together. Is the only spring on the bottom end where the round part is?

the second cable is for safety so you can close the throttle in case the spring fail
